SSDW has partnered with Inly School to host our Fall speaker, Dr. Peter Gray, on “Raising Resilient, Happy Children: How to Provide Children & Teens With the Play and Independent Activity They Need for Mental Wellbeing and Long-Term Success”.

Dr. Gray is Research Professor of Psychology at Boston College, author of a longstanding introductory psychology textbook now in its 8th edition, and a founder of Let Grow, a nonprofit promoting childhood independence. He is a world-renowned authority on the role of play in human evolution and, for more than half a century, he has studied the importance of young people’s self-directed activity for mental wellbeing.

Through Inly’s generous partnership, we are delighted to be able to welcome Dr. Gray on Sunday, October 5, and to offer this event at no-cost to attendees, including onsite childcare! We do ask for preregistration for both adults and children.

Event Details: A Conversation in Community

Our afternoon kicks off with a Local Business Resource Fair in the Inly Artsbarn at 3:00PM. This is an opportunity for South Shore attendees to learn more about youth-facing services in our area, including therapeutic, academic, social, athletic, and creative supports.

Dr. Gray’s talk begins at 3:30PM, and there will be further community conversation following in the Q&A and continued Resource Fair.

Outside on the Inly playground from 3:00PM-5:30PM, we are offering all attendees complimentary childcare and unstructured play on the model Dr. Gray will be discussing. Childcare is for children ages 2 and up (children under age 2 must remain in the care of a parent or caregiver). This will be offered rain or shine, cancelled only for thunderstorms, so please dress children for the weather.

Join us for this wonderful opportunity to hear actionable recommendations from a prominent Research Psychologist on how to support and promote healthy child development in our communities!
