2025-2026 Initiatives
Stay tuned for our next Initiatives meeting in early August to plan back-to-school.
We typically meet monthly at Scituate Town Library to discuss new initiatives, upcoming events, and ongoing programming. These meetings are child-friendly and open to the public.
We welcome you to come share your ideas and drop in anytime!
FALL SPEAKER BOOKED!
Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025 @3:30PM
Save the date for an important presentation from the play guru himself, Peter Gray, PhD, whose more than half century of research in evolutionary, developmental, and educational psychology has underscored the role of unstructured children’s play in raising happy and resilient lifelong learners.
Dr. Gray is Research Professor of Psychology at Boston College, author of a longstanding introductory psychology textbook now in its 8th edition, and a founder of Let Grow, a nonprofit promoting childhood independence and pushing back against a culture of “helicopter parenting”.
He will be joining South Shore Digital Wellness (SSDW) to discuss how increasing opportunities for free play can promote children’s immediate and future mental well-being. You won’t want to miss this opportunity!
Help Us Plan Future Expert Talks
We gather monthly to hear from the community at our Initiatives Meeting and to decide what expert speakers best align with emerging parenting concerns on digital wellness. We are typically planning a season ahead.
A sample of some recent discussions
On May 6, 2025, we hosted an Anxious Generation community discussion panel with a school psychologist, teacher, 3 high school students, and moderator Lynne Reeves Griffin, a renowned international counselor and best-selling author, to discuss rising concerns with youth mental health.
Ongoing Initiatives
Our Digital Wellness Book Club meets monthly on topics that impact kids’ mental health. This is an opportunity for parent reflection and connection, regardless of where you are in your parenting journey!
Book club is a low pressure and friendly environment. Prior reading is not required! We provide a cheat sheet of important topics for group discussions.
See the events tab for dates and details.
Digital Wellness Book Club
Adventure Club
We established our monthly club to share awareness about the benefits of unstructured play (play with no anticipated outcomes) by creating more low-pressure opportunities for both parents and kids to meet up within communities.
Our monthly adventure groups meet at various locations throughout the South Shore.
